An Incredible Waste of Time

When it comes to computing, everything I’ve been doing for the past year has been an incredible waste of time. I don’t need anyone to tell me what I can easily glean for myself.
The biggest mistake I’ve made is thinking that someone actually enjoys reading the things I’ve been blogging about. There’s a slim chance that someone other than me will actually read this article. This article is the only explanation I’m providing to indicate what I’m doing.
This Blog
I started this blog to keep me occupied. The mistake is writing articles like someone else is reading them. Some of the subjects interest no one but me. I’m going to fix that mistake, and I hope I won’t make that mistake again. My main interest is computing on Linux, so that’s what I need to focus on.
I’m going to slowly remove or rewrite articles that have no lasting value to me. If I can’t use them as references, why should I bother to keep them? My web hosting is free, and I use dynamic subdomains with my domain name, which will cost me $10.44 to renew next year. If it was more expensive than that, I would probably resort to keeping my blog on my own computer.
Social Media
I’ve already withdrawn from most social media platforms. I’m sure I’ve left footprints behind, but that’s about it. I use Facebook because most of my relatives communicate on Messenger, but I don’t post anything on Facebook itself anymore. There’s a family group on Messenger, and that’s where I post anything important.
Reddit is a massive “forum” system, but it’s treated like social media. I’ve been participating in some of the subreddits, but as of today, I won’t participate anymore. There are too many immature, self-appointed moderators, making meaningful discussion impossible. I deleted my account, after more than four years, and I now have one less social media platform to think about.
Social media can be toxic, and I have no desire to expose myself to that toxicity anymore.
